Simply indescribable: A sunrise hike in the mountains is a must!
Getting up really early at the Kinderhotel Ramsi is the motto for everyone who wants to be part of this unique experience. If the weather is fine, our guests can join our hotel manager and mountain hiking guide Walter Ramsbacher on the 1,999 m high Poludnig (or Gartnerkofel) for an unforgettable sunrise hike.

No question it’s early… very early. If the alarm clock rings at the actual deep sleep phase (depending on sunrise time today for example already at 03:30 o’clock), one would like to turn around and continue sleeping. But getting up early is definitely worth it!
It is still dark and quiet in the whole hotel. Only the wonderful, fresh scent of coffee gets in one’s nose, because the coffee machine in the Kinderhotel Ramsi is already running lively, at least with a little caffeine kick to awaken the tired spirits on vacation.
At 04:00 o’clock departure is at the Kinderhotel with Walter Ramsbacher and it goes first direction Hermagor and further direction Möderndorf, where the asphalted Eggeralm road begins (by the way there is also the entrance to the Garnitzenklamm). Turn after turn into the high valley of Egger, Dellacher and Poludnig Alm.
Dive into the alpine pasture and mountain experience
At this time is also still quiet on the alpine meadow. In the darkness you can only see the contours of the rustic alpine huts and the occasional lights of the still resting summer inhabitants and holiday guests.
The grazing cattle – cows, sheep and horses – are still asleep. Metre by metre we climb up to the Poludnig Alm, from whose parking lot we will climb the summit.
The Poludnig with its 1.999 m is a “nearly two thousand meter high” in the mountain group of the Carnic Alps and a popular excursion destination, which can also be visited by hiking enthusiastic children.
Excitedly waiting for the sunrise
The hiking trail to Poludnig leads through a short piece of forest and above the tree line it gets a bit rocky, but never dizzying. Step by step you go up to the summit cross, past sleeping sheep.
Once we reach the top, we pack up warm and wait eagerly for the sunrise. A few minutes later the sky begins to glow and already the shining fireball appears over the hilltop. The warming sunrays bathe the mountains in a unique light and bring the landscape to life.
After the first amazement, great photos and videos are taken to capture the indescribable holiday impressions. Walter Ramsbacher brought a good drop in his rucksack to toast the summit victory.
Descent and refreshment in the hotel
Now that everything is bright, the beauty of the mountains becomes clear. Satisfied and happy is the descent over the mountain ridge back to the parking lot. Now also the beautiful alpine pasture area of the Egger, Dellacher and Poludnig Alm with the Egger alpine lake becomes visible. We also admire the Austrian, Slovenian and Italian mountain panorama. Back at the hotel (arrival approx. at 08:00 a.m.) the hard-working hikers can expect the full breakfast buffet, which will be enjoyed to the full on this special day. What a start of a holiday day in the Kinderhotel Ramsi!
